Seido Karate has been operating in Auckland for over 20 years. There are two Auckland clubs, one in Devonport, the other in Morningside. The Morningside club has it’s own full time dojo (training hall), with around 150 training members and about 15 classes per week. Auckland Seido Karate is a non-profit organisation. There are over 20 black belts sharing instruction duties at Morningside, providing a comprehensive range of skills and teaching methodology. Black belts have from 5 to over 20 years karate experience. In Auckland, instructors are not paid, but teach to offer back to others what Seido Karate gives to them. Our goal is to develop students to achieve more for themselves than they perhaps thought possible. By building confidence, self-discipline, physical fitness and camaraderie, students find that karate benefits their everyday lives. Karate is not about who can kick highest or win a fight, Karate encourages individuals to strive to do their best and to challenge beyond their own perceived limitations. Seido Karate is structured and supervised to ensure that students are training in a safe and constructive environment. Karate students range from 5 year old children upwards. Beginners can be any age, shape, size or level of fitness. Training is not dependent on any particular capabilities. Women make up around 30% of training adults. Seido Karate was founded in 1975 by Kaicho Tadashi Nakamura (now a 9th degree black belt). While Seido Karate is headquartered in New York, clubs are spread across the world. Seido Karate is particularly strong in New Zealand with large clubs in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Nelson, with many smaller clubs spread across the country. |
