Beginners InformationWe welcome everyone who wants to give Seido Karate a go - we have dedicated classes and instructors that will get you started. Typically a beginner will train in any or all of the three weekly beginner classes for 1 to 3 months before their first grading. In that time you will learn the beginners syllabus which includes basic punches, blocks, kicks, stances and terminology. You will also learn some self-defence techniques along with strength and fitness exercises, and the etiquette of the dojo. Is Seido Karate for me? Seido students range in age from 5 to 75! It will cost you nothing and the safety of each student is of paramount concern to the instructors. You are welcome to watch if you prefer. Come down and watch a beginners class and talk to the people there. What equipment do I need? Beginners usually wear loose-fitting clothing like track pants and T-shirt. After your first grading you are then expected to purchase a uniform ("gi"). All students train in barefeet. How much does it cost? The first four classes are free. See the fees schedule for more information. How do I start? Just turn up to the dojo! Come in 15 minutes before the class start time and introduce yourself to the instructor. It's as easy as that. No appointment is necessary. Anybody is welcome to start at any time during the year. Beginner classes Adults: Mondays and Thursdays 6pm-7pm and Saturdays at 10am-11.15am. Children (Aged 7-14): Mondays and Wednesdays 5pm to 6pm during school terms. Brat Pack (Aged 5-7): Wednesdays 4:15pm-5pm during school terms. Parents and Caregivers: Please arrive at the dojo 15 minutes before the scheduled start time of the class and introduce yourself and your child to the instructor. Children's class are structured around the discipline of karate, but with fun and games through-out the session. Fur further beginners information we recommend you read the Beginners FAQ. Feel free to drop us an e-mail, or give us a call or just come to the dojo to watch any 6pm class during the week. |
